Jasmine - Two Weeks

We are very happy with how smoothly Jasmine has fit into our household.

I was hoping there would be a minimum of hissing and bruised feelings. I took the chance on bringing her here because she was such a laid-back kitty at the Shelter. Maintaining equilibrium in a multi-cat household is no small concern and although there are several wonderful cats at the Shelter that I would love to bring home, their personalities are such that they need to be the star of the household--and our household already has several stars...

But Jasmine is happy to fit in. She isn't timid--she took a spot on the foot of the bed and regularly sits on one of the three chairs upstairs to watch the daily doings. But--perhaps because of her age and experience--Jasmine doesn't feel she has to push herself into any situation where disruption might ensue. She just takes her place with confidence and lets the household's routines swirl around her.

And I can tell she is very happy to be part of a real household. She is still adjusting to having canned food available whenever she wants it--she has put on a little weight in the last couple weeks. But I like to see extra weight on extremely geriatric kitties. They need the reserves and when they are pleasingly plump, they are doing well.

And when I think of all those months when she had to scramble for food, all the nights she went to sleep hungry, I am happy to provide a place when she will never need to go to bed hungry.

What a great spot for Jasmine to watch the world go by while remaining safe and warm. I hope she is fitting in well with everyone.

Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog on the loss of my two sweethearts, Sunkist and Butterball. The joy they brought to my life is so much greater than the grief, but the grief will still be with me for a while.
Bless her heart. I've been thinking about Jasmine and am glad to see her doing well.

She certainly looks content...hope the adjustment is going well. How wonderful that she can live out her years in a loving home instead of a shelter.

At last I can leave a message in my own right as I'm now in blue! I've been enjoying your stories and all the cats for about a month now. I have 5 cats although I started with just one. Somehow people kept bringing me their cats and then a stray came and now a second stray ... so I feed 5 of them. During the day I only have 3 cats; in the evening and overnight I have 4. For a couple of evening meals only; I have a young Tom who was born nearby. He is about 2 now. Someone took him as a kitten but he has returned to where his stray Mama taught him to find food. Unfortunately she disappeared last summer. My cats are Sascha - 3 years old (burmese who sleeps in bed with us), Pretty Kittypuss Cat - 10 years old - a tabby with white blaze and socks, Felix - black and white boy - now 6 years old. Lillipilli is about 4. She arrived as a malnourished stray kitten but she had been desexed. She is now a giant silver tabby but very, very gentle. Snuffly is my new tom. He has stopped biting me but will give me a swipe if he can!
My blog is only half an hour old. Hopefully over the next few weeks/months, I'll learn how to upload photos of my babies.
I really admire your work with these beautiful creatures and when you lose one, I feel sad too.
